whitehawk asked:
I have Googled government grants, and am usually taken to a place called grants.gov, but this site asks for credit card information to pay for shipping. It doesn’t appear governmental. Does anyone know of a true government site, or if there is an actual book that I could find at a book store?

Government grants are not given to individuals. They are given to nonprofit organizations that have programs to give them to individuals.
Don’t spend any money on any books about grants - nearly all of them are rip-offs. Go to your public library who does subscribe to legit grant tracking publications that are generally extraordinarily expensive.

For mental health and substance abuse disabilities go to
for developmental disabilities:
is one place. It is usually a state government that offers grants to private providers. Try contacting the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities or the equivalent in your state. They are interesting hearing about new projects that can help the disabled live more independently.
I agree, I would NOT give my credit card out to that site…it doesn’t sound right.

most websites for senators and congressmen of the area you live in have a section on thier website for federal grants. they typically list the grants that are available and will also offer advice for how to prepare the grant request letters…you will not need a credit card- they give this information free direct from thier website. If you hve any trouble preparing the grant request letter you can also contact your congressmen for assistance. As civil servants they must help you in just about everything or direct you and guide you:)
check your state government websites or your county websites or google federal grant listings in _your area_
good luck:)

Try going to the government website. And find out which dept looks after people with disabilities (may be different ones for different disabilities (i.e mental health could be seperate)). If you can find the right dept then they should have a list of grants (at least) if not info on how to apply, or what they are for.
Some grants may be given to individuals but they are much more likely to come from charity organisations, so try looking for them aswell. Just choose the disability (or type may be better) and google it.
I don’t think books would be that useful as things change over time and once one thing changes the book is out of date. And of it’s asking for credit card info it’s not likely to be a government site. Any info they send out to you will most likely be at your own request and free.
